5% Incompatible after CD DVD Replication

Hello,
It's been around 4 months since a short run of 1000 discs was completed for
a client.
The disc image was provided to a replicator on 2 CD / DVD-R's for redundancy.
Since then, the client has reported 5% incompatibility complaints from the
few hundred that have sold so far. Incompatible discs that have been
returned play with no problem on the client's DVD player.
The replicator has not provided any insight into this, so my 3 part question
is this:
Is 5% incompatibility for a replicated project that passed QA reasonable?
If not, could the issue be the result of a CD-R / DVD-R master rather than a DLT
tape?
Is it reasonable for the replicator (chosen by the client) to be
unresponsive to questions about this problem?
Any info would be appreciated.
thx,

  1. I'll put my 2 cents in here.

5% is a small margin. The client can play these returned discs on his
    player.
So I'm wondering. Were these reported "bad discs" by consumers who then
returned them to a retail store, and then the retailer has returned
them? What reasons where given with the returns? Why were they deemed
    faulty.

Buyers will complain about many things..granted, many may be real. Many
may be not. Secondly, are the retail stores looking for excuses to get
    sale and return.

Let it be known im not in retailing or distribution..but I am aware of
    many of these issues.
Be sure that there ARE issues with the disc before you go about
    expending enormous amounts of energy.
I would ask for a number of these discs to be sent to you for your
    envaluation.

Having said all that...replicators aren’t perfect either.
